Presentation Assignment

Choose a science career that is interesting to you.

Do some research to answer questions like these:

  • What does the scientist do in his/her job?
  • What does a "day in the life of" this type of scientist look like?
  • What kind of education do you need for this career?
  • What kind of salary or benefits might you expect?

Create a presentation in Google. Include pictures, visuals, videos, links, etc. to make your presentation engaging to your audience. Include at least 10 slides, including a title slide with your career title, and your name, and a reference slide with at least 3 resources/links that you used in your research.

Presentations are due on 1-24-14.

Contact a Scientist in the Field You Studied

Your job is to contact a scientist in the field you studied. If, for example, you read Frog Scientist, then you would want to find contact info for either the scientist in the book, and/or other scientists that study frogs.

Write a professional and error-free email, asking some questions you would like answered.

Begin with a greeting, and introduce yourself.

For example:

Greetings Dr. Frog:

My name is Katie and I am a sixth grader at Prairie Creek Intermediate School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  I recently read the book The Frog Scientist by Pamela S. Turner, and I had some questions that I was wondering if you would be willing to answer.

<Type Questions>

<Thank the person.>

Thank you so much for your time. I enjoyed learning about your career and look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,
Katie Johnson

Question examples include:

What does your typical day at work look like?
What is your favorite part of your job?
What things are you currently studying about?

Also include questions you have after reading the text.
